San Antonio joins the world in celebrating taichi and qigong

This year’s World Taichi and Qigong Day was a joyous event celebrated in true San Antonio fiesta spirit! People got outside at Breckenridge Park to enjoy some fresh air, visit with dear friends, meet fellow taichi enthusiasts and make new friends, all while practicing and appreciating the many forms of taichi and qigong.

World Tai Chi and Qigong Day happens every year on the last Saturday of April to promote the disciplines and benefits of qigong and taichi. All around the world, on the same day at 10 a.m. local time, people get together to practice taichi and qigong to promote these ancient arts for body and mind enlightenment, essentially encircling the globe on that day with good vibes and essential energy.

This year was our largest event ever. About 130 people joined the event from eight organizations: Bob Ross Senior Center, North East Senior Center, Walker Ranch Senior Center, San Antonio Chen Taichi School, San Antonio A Good Spirit Taichi, San Antonio LongFei Taichi School, San Antonio Shaolin Kung, and Taichitoday all practiced together at Breckenridge Park. Many thanks to all the local teachers for sharing their knowledge and showcasing their groups’ enthusiasm and talents.

We all enjoyed the performances from each school, including multiple bare hand and weapon forms: Shaolin Wubu quan, Luohan quan, Xiaohong quan, Chen 18 form, Chen Xinjia, Chen Paochui, Yang 16 and 24 forms, 42 competition form, Chen broad sword, Yang broad sword, stab for sticking force, Kongfu fan, pushhand, 42 form taichi sword. It was amazing and inspiring to see so many different styles! We want to say thank you again for everyone who attended and participated in the event; we look forward to seeing you all next year!
